THE Ferrari Roma Spider is the latest model convertible.

This car combines the subtly retro styling of a hardtop with a folding fabric roof that closes in 13.5 seconds and does up to 60 km/h.

The retractable top forces a slightly different design for the Roma Spider. Designers adjusted the shape of the rear window.

The rear deck has a body-colored front panel that divides the area into two sections to make room for storing the roof. The underside integrates with an active carbon fiber spoiler.

Ferarri will offer buyers the opportunity to select bespoke fabrics and contrasting stitching for the ceiling.

To keep occupants comfortable with the roof down, there's a power-distributed wind deflector that integrates into the rear seat backrest.

Another novelty of this car is its engine, which has 612 horsepower.

Like the coupe, the Roma Spider comes with a 3.9-liter twin-turbo V8 that produces 612 horsepower (456 kilowatts) between 5,750 and 7,500 rpm.

Maximum torque is 561 pound-feet (760 Newton-meters), available from 3,000 to 5,750 rpm. The engine red line is at 7500 rpm. The only gearbox option is an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic.

Ferrari estimates the Ferrari Roma Spider reaches 62 mph in 3.4 seconds and 124 mph in 9.7 seconds. For comparison, the hardtop model also hits 62 in 3.4 seconds, but reaches 124 mph in 9.3 seconds.

Ferrari cites the top speed of both at over 320 km/h.

The Ferrari Roma Spider weighs 84 kg more than the hardtop model. The increase comes mainly from the roof opening system. The electric wind deflector also adds weight.

The Roma Spider must be able to keep occupants comfortable on long journeys. Front occupants get electrically adjustable 18-way heated seats, and a neck warmer is an option.

The rest of the interior is like the hardtop where the high center console creates separate cockpits for the front passengers. The layout includes a digital instrument cluster for the driver.

Finally, the Ferrari Roma Spider features an 8.4-inch center screen, and buyers can specify an optional screen on the passenger side.

Pricing and availability information for the Roma Spider in the United States is not yet available. Therefore, what remains for us is the demand to be great enough for this model to reach the Brazilian market.
