Rear of the 2024 BMW 5 Series has been spotted

The rear of the 2024 BMW 5 Series has been seen on the test. It looks like this car will be electric. Keep reading and check out what was seen in the spy!

Ahead of its confirmed debut on May 23 (early May 24 in Europe), the eighth generation of the BMW Series 5 Sedan is revealing its rear design in a new spy photo. Since the roundel doesn't have a blue outline, we're inclined to believe this is a conventionally powered version rather than the electric i5.

That's not terribly important, as the ICE and EV will look nearly identical inside and out, echoing China's 7 Series/i7 and 3 Series LWB/i3. We can only assume that the photo shows a pre-production prototype captured in Germany at the Dingolfing plant where the luxury sedan will be assembled.

The small trunklid spoiler tells us that we are dealing with a 5er equipped with the M Sport Package, perhaps the M Sport Package Pro, judging by the black roof and side mirror covers. The recessed door handles on the BMW 5 Series are similar (if not identical) to those on the i4, while the Hofmeister twist is a little sharper than we're used to.

The taillights have been slimmed down and have a flatter shape, while the horizontal bars should make the rear appear wider than it really is. Fan or not of how the derrière looks for the next generation G60, at least BMW has made an effort to give the 2024 5 Series its own look, thus resisting the temptation to apply the copy/paste formula.

Spy photos have strongly suggested the Munich-based automaker won't be taking any chances with the front-end design. While the larger 7 Series, along with the X7 and XM, have huge grilles and split headlights, the new BMW 5 Series will look conventional.

Inside, it will be entirely different compared to the outgoing G30, switching to the recently announced iDrive 8.5 infotainment system with the dual-screen setup and minimal traditional stereo.

Codenamed G61, the station wagon should follow shortly, and the BMW already announced that there will be an all-electric i5 Touring in 2024. Not long after, the M5 (G90) will open the roof with a twin-turbo V8 plug-in hybrid, rumored to have more than 700c of power.

If reports are to be believed, the M5 Touring is returning for a third generation around 2025 and reportedly has the internal codename G99. In this way, the new BMW 5 Series promises to be successful among enthusiasts of this model.
