The restyling of the Opala for the 80s, brought its front and rear with a rectangular design, with new headlights and new taillights. Today, the top-of-the-line version of the Chevrolet Opala Diplomata 1980 is considered one of the rarest collectible models in Brazil.

Presented at the 1982 Motor Show, which took place in the city of São Paulo, the Diplomata became one of the most sought-after models on the market, competing directly with models like the Alfa Romeo and also the Ford Landau. Even so, the Chevrolet Opala continued to be the sales leader in Brazil for many consecutive years.
